Core criteria in high-temperature measurement
Sensor life in foundries, annealing furnaces and high-temperature processes depends on temperature level, atmosphere, thermal shock, mechanical impact and protection tube material. Thermocouple type and protection design must be selected together.
Thermocouple type selection
Type K thermocouples are widely used in many industrial applications. Type S, R or B noble metal thermocouples may be preferred for higher temperatures and accuracy requirements.
Protection tube and installation
Ceramic protection tubes, metal sheaths or special alloys are selected according to process conditions. Proper immersion rate, preheating and mechanical protection are important where thermal shock risk exists.
