What is an immersion heater?
An immersion heater is an electric heating element in direct contact with the liquid to be heated. It provides fast and efficient heat transfer in tanks, vessels, boilers and heat exchanger applications.
Material selection
Sheath material must be selected according to the chemical structure of the liquid, operating temperature, corrosion risk and maintenance interval. Stainless steel, Incoloy and special alloys can be evaluated for different processes.
- Stainless steel options for water and low-corrosion liquids
- Proper surface loading for oil and high-temperature processes
- Fluid compatibility check for chemical applications
Power calculation and surface loading
Tank volume, initial temperature, target temperature, heating time and heat losses must be considered in power calculation. Excessive surface loading may cause local overheating or fouling in some fluids.
TEMPCO approach
TEMPCO provides technical evaluation and quotation support for flanged, threaded and custom immersion heater solutions in tank heating applications.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can immersion heaters be used in every liquid?
No. Sheath material and surface loading must be selected according to fluid chemistry, viscosity and operating temperature.
What information is needed for quotation?
Tank volume, fluid type, target temperature, initial temperature, voltage, expected power and connection dimensions are required.
